What is dry needling?

In summary, dry needling is a 'Western style' of acupuncture that is evidenced based to be the most effective way to loosen tight and painful muscles. The physiotherapist simply inserts a very thin acupuncture needle through the skin into the tight knotted muscle (a myofascial trigger point), and it deactivates tension and relaxes the overactive muscle.

When needled well, it is extensively proven to provide substantially more release than massage does and with far less surrounding tissue damage, hence is now used widely in physio and sports medicine and is a large part and specialty of Adelaide Physiocare and Sports Acupuncture.

The Evidence.
