What is dry needling?
Dry needling is a modern, evidence-based technique used by physiotherapists to release tight muscles and reduce pain. A thin, acupuncture-style needle is inserted into the myofascial trigger point (tight knotted muscle) which deactivates tension, promotes better blood flow, and relaxes the muscle better than other manual techniques. When needled well, dry needling releases tension much better than any other modality including massage.
Dry needling can help with all musculoskeletal issues, especially:
◦ Muscle tightness
◦ Back and neck pain
◦ Shoulder tension and headaches
◦ Jaw pain
◦ Sports injuries
◦ Tendonitis

Dry Needling vs. Traditional Acupuncture
While dry needling focuses on releasing muscle trigger points for pain relief, traditional acupuncture works with energy flow (chi) to restore balance and healing. At Adelaide Physiocare, we predominantly use dry needling, but can use both approaches when appropriate — blending modern and traditional techniques to suit your body’s needs.
